I Knew is a visual and tactile mixed media work that weaves together intricate layers of texture, stitching, and vintage ephemera to create a tapestry of personal reflection. This work is loosely inspired by the geometric structures of quilts, yet it differs by incorporating thick layers of encrusted texture that add rigidity, contrasting the softness typically associated with quilting. The phrase is drawn from journals I keep and each letter and shape is meticulously stitched together, blending the intimacy of hand sewing with the precision of a sewing machine. I explore the relationship between memory and material through the use of vintage ephemera, sourced from many trips to antique stores and flea markets, and from my mother before me.
